Strategies Synergy Sires uses to manage risk in genetic and sire selection:
1. We have used/invested in high reliability sires backed by well contemporary grouped actual carcass data (>80% Reliability for MS)
· i.e. Mayura Itoshigenami JNR, Coates Itoshigenami G113, Sumo Michifuku F154, Blackmore K733, Longford Mr Awesome, Mayura Notorious.
· Or we use a variety of sons of elite high reliability bulls
· Young sires should be genomic tested to reduce risk and increase reliability
· Stacking multiple generations of unproven or genomic only sires introduces compounding risk of failure outcomes and large swings in genetic predictions.
2. We Maintain our investment in a variety of highly proven high performance Maternal lines aka Cow families. Taking the time to identify specific matriarchs transmitting elite genetics consistently.
· We use highly proven female maternal lines: think Suzutani, Hikokura, Yuriko, Chiyotake, Aizakura, etc. This minimizes your risk of failure carcasses, the female is more than 50% of the equation.
· We utilize different maternal lines that have differing strengths that can be complimented and successfully crossed to improve resulting progeny.
· Manages inbreeding
3. Pedigrees! We do not sacrifice on pedigree integrity.
· Sires cannot have any "holes" in their 6-10 generation pedigrees!
"holes" meaning unproven/ unknown sires/genetics. These holes introduce unnecessary added risk of failure outcomes.
· We focus on low risk, High reward genetics!
4. We use Breedplan & Australian Progeny Test Program
· Largest Wagyu EBV/EPD database outside of Japan
· 50K-100K SNP profile based genomics (Cattle Industry Leading Technology)
· Highlights strengths and weaknesses of cattle numerically allowing for easier management and mating
· Identifies top and bottom of your herd allowing comparison to the whole breed.
· Identifies strengths and weaknesses of individual animals
5. We kill animals to verify the genetics we are breeding & are actively participating in the world leading Australian Progeny Test Program.
· The PTP provides large scale well contemporary grouped data collection from a variety of herds.
· There is no substitute for hard real kill data and carcass pictures.
6. We use Corrective mating & select line breeding
Breeding complimentary cattle to one another to eliminate flaws or weaknesses.
Line breeding to cement & concentrate desirable traits
