Synergy Sires Selection & Breeding Philosophy:
Managing/Mitigating Risk
Our main priority is Managing/Mitigating Risk in genetic selection and matings to produce a greater percentage of outstanding carcasses.
We and our customers cannot afford to invest thousands of dollars in a carcass outcome that is a failure resulting in a financial loss from an unsaleable “Wagyu” carcass.
Priority #1 is Marbling
1. We Focus 1st on Marbling and Marble Score:
· This is the main profit driving trait of our Wagyu
· We need a salable carcass that has elite marbling to generate a premium.
2. We Focus 2nd on Rib Eye Area
· The largest source of revenue from the carcass, drives carcass profitability
3. Following Marbling and Ribeye Area we focus on balanced sires that possess a combination of the following:
· Good Marble Fineness
i. Fineness of marbling drives premiums and appeal to high end chefs and customers
ii. Fineness of marbling drives flavor
· High Carcass Weight
i. Larger carcass weights allow for maximizing efficiencies of slaughter costs & processing, feed bunk/ feedlot space, and steady beef supply
· Adequate Growth traits, 200 Day, 400 Day, 600 Day Weights
i. Reducing DOF (Days On Feed) and age at slaughter by selecting for earlier maturing and fast growing cattle.
· Low to moderate Birth Weight
i. Maintain calving ease without sacrificing calf vigor is our goal
· Moderate Mature Cow Weight
i. Moderate sized cows that raise a calf without going to extreme mature cow weights.
